A Blaze In The Big Sky
How often does a metal fest give you moments of connection, stillness and beauty so profound it makes you cry?
Artists weeping before a cheering crowd. Fists in the air. Tears in my eyes as the singer of Pan-Amerikan Native Front, covered in blood, is draped in the Blackfeet Nation Flag. Local kids witnessing the power of Heavy Metal as a unifying force–as a positive outlet for aggression. Maniacs sleeping in the woods, bathing in Two Medicine Lake. Getting lost in the splendor of it all. Fucking majestic!
All that space does something to your mind. 10,000+ years of respect and care for the environment. It’s all there preserved for you to stare at slack jawed and dumbfounded. The immensity of all that land and time makes you feel human. Makes you feel whole and real. It puts you in your place. Snow melts. Life passes. Mountains remain.
Ancient eyes were once a present witness to the landscape that stands before me. Someone told me the mountains love music. The Blackfeet Nation Flag Song, war calls and Inter Arma were an offering to the hills. Echoing through the trees and wildflowers, across placid lakes reflecting the sky and back into my mind. Purified.
Total support to the Blackfeet Nation for sharing their backyard with us. I will tell everyone I can how beautiful your part of the world is.
